Biography

A/Prof Alan McNab is a Melbourne-based ophthalmologist consulting at St Vincent’s Private Hospital. He has extensive experience in treating and conducting surgery, where required, on a broad range of eye conditions to achieve the best possible outcomes.

A/Prof Alan McNab specialises in treatment of diseases of the eye socket, eyelids and tear ducts as well as tumours, skin cancers, thyroid eye disease and trauma.

He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1979, and trained as an ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital before undertaking international training in the UK with post-graduate fellowships in orbital, lacrimal and ocular plastic (eyelid) surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

Alan is the author of a text book on orbital and lacrimal surgery and he has published widely in specialist journals and books as well as being on the editorial board of a number of international journals. He is committed to training the next generation of ophthalmologists through his position as Director of the Orbital, Plastic and Lacrimal Clinic at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.
