Biography
Associate Professor David Platts is an Associate at Queensland Cardiovascular Group, a Specialist Cardiologist at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside in Brisbane and an Associate Professor within the School of Medicine, at the University of Queensland.
In addition to general Cardiology, his clinical interests include heart failure, critical care cardiology and echocardiography (resting & stress echocardiography as well as trans-oesophageal echocardiography).After graduating from the School of Medicine at The University of Tasmania, Dr Platts completed his basic physician training at The Royal Hobart Hospital and then cardiology advanced training in Hobart and Sydney. After completing a Fellowship year in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, Dr Platts did a two year echocardiography fellowship at King’s College Hospital in London, England. He obtained a Doctor of Medicine from King’s College, University of London, following research in contrast specific echocardiographic imaging in coronary artery disease whilst working at Kings College Hospital.
Dr Platts has also completed a Doctor of Philosophy within the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Queensland, with the thesis titled “Application of perflutren microsphere contrast echocardiography – feasibility and interaction with mechanical cardiac support”. David has an active clinical and research interest in contrast enhanced echocardiography and imaging of percutaneous short term and durable long term mechanical cardiac support devices.
