Biography

Benedict Devereaux is a Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Queensland and Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital performing advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Prof Devereaux is a recognised expert in the diagnosis and endoscopic management of pancreatico-biliary disease. He contributes widely to the education of students, junior colleagues and peers throughout Australia and internationally as an invited faculty member at multiple international conferences, endoscopic symposia and hands-on workshops.

After completing gastroenterology training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital he undertook further Fellowships in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatoscopy (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) at Indiana University Medical Centre in Indianapoilis.

He has represented his peers at every stage of his medical career, from medical school through to presidency of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) between 2021-2023. He continues to chair the GESA Infection Prevention and Control in Endoscopy Committee and leads the GESA Regional, Remote and Indigenous Network’s Gut Centre Program in Alice Springs. He advises on gastroenterology clinical practice, governance and standards in addition to health resource utilisation
