Biography
Prof Dan Chambers is a thoracic and transplant physician and one of Australia’s foremost experts on using cell therapy for lung disease and lung transplantation.
After graduating from the University of Queensland (UQ) with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1993, Dan completed a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Birmingham, focussing on the pulmonary biology of nitric oxide. He completed his specialist training and undertook a further fellowship in lung transplantation in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, before moving back to Australia in 2005.Since returning he has co-founded the Western Australian Lung Transplant Program, held the position of Head of Research at Queensland Lung Transplant Service, and helped pioneer ex-vivo lung perfusion in resuscitating marginal donors in Australia. He currently sits on a number of expert international lung transplant committees, is on the editorial board of the European Respiratory Journal, and holds the appointment of Associate Professor at UQ.
