Biography

Dr Robert Anderson is a cardiologist and electrophysiologist at St Vincent's Private Hospital.

He completed general cardiology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2015-2016, St, Vincent’s and Geelong Hospital in 2017 and then EP training and a PhD on mechanisms of ventricular tachycardia (VT) under the supervision of A/Prof Geoffrey Lee and Prof Jon Kalman including studies at Westmead Hospital in Sydney under the supervision of A/Prof Saurabh Kumar in 2018-2021.

He was awarded National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), National Heart Foundation (NHF) and Royal Australian College of Physician (RACP) scholarships and won the Young Investigators Award at APHRS in 2019. He has returned from a 2.5-year high-volume international EP/pacing fellowship and post-doctoral studies at Toronto General Hospital where he also completed translational studies in VT mechanisms with his mentor Prof Kumaraswamy Nanthakumar published in multiple EP journals. Here he furthered skills in complex atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and congenital catheter ablation. It also provided high volume pacing (including complex congenital, leadless and cardiac resynchronisation therapy) training.

He was awarded the RACP Bushell Scholarship for his intramural VT work and received the Toronto General Hospital Medhi Afshar Research Award in 2022-2023. He is continuing VT research through the Baker Heart and Vascular Institute Experimental Electrophysiology Laboratory.

His clinical interests include mapping and ablation of PVCs/VT, congenital and complex atrial arrhythmias. He performs device implantation, electrical studies and ablations.

Better and fairer care. Always.

In a rapidly transforming world, St Vincent's has created a refreshed vision and strategy to help shape Australia's health and aged care future.
