Biography
Mr Gerard Powell is a Melbourne-based orthopaedic surgeon with over 25 years-experience. He is recognised in the fields of joint replacement surgery (including revision) as well as musculoskeletal tumour surgery. He is clear and concise with his recommendations to ensure people are fully informed before proceeding with treatment.
Mr Powell is a highly respected orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in the treatment of joint conditions of the hip and knee (operative and non-operative). He also has a strong interest in the treatment of tumours and musculoskeletal cancer.Gerard graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1987 and completed orthopaedic training in 1995 before taking up an appointment at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He completed his post-graduate fellowship training in musculoskeletal oncology, arthroplasty and reconstructive surgery, trauma and shoulder surgery in Australia and internationally in the UK, Italy, Austria and the USA.
Gerard continues to devote time to teaching and research. He previously served as the Director of Surgical Training for orthopaedic registrars at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne for over a decade. He is the author of more than 25 scientific publications, regularly speaks at scientific conferences nationally and internationally and is the recipient of a number of awards.
