About us

Our internationally acclaimed network of private hospitals provides patient-centred care to thousands of people every year. We have a network of 10 Private Hospitals along Australia's south-Eastcoast, with four private hospitals based in Melbourne across locations including East Melbourne, Fitzroy, Kew and Werribee.

St Vincent’s Health Australia (SVHA) has been providing healthcare in Australia for over 160 years, since our first hospital was established in Sydney in 1857 by the Sisters of Charity.

When the first five Sisters arrived in Australia in 1838, they carried with them the vision of their Founder, Mary Aikenhead, to reach out to all in need of care, but particularly those living on the fringes of our society.

Our private hospitals hold an essential place in this Mission.

Since the opening of the first St Vincent’s Private Hospital in 1909, we have worked in partnership with specialist doctors to build a strong culture of excellence and compassion in healthcare.

Today, we have a network of 10 Private Hospitals along Australia's south-east coast, with four private hospitals based in Melbourne across locations including East Melbourne, Fitzroy, Kew and Werribee.

Providing patient-centered care to thousands of people each year, our hospitals continue to serve our community in line with our core values of justice, integrity, excellence and compassion, just as our founding Sisters did so many years ago.

Today, with ongoing investment into research, innovation and technology and an experienced team of doctors, nurses, allied health and other healthcare professionals working together, we continue to strengthen our capacity to care for those within our community and beyond.

Clinical Documentation & Coding

Clinical Documentation & Coding

The quality of information in the patient's medical record is key to ensuring they have a safe and positive experience whilst in our care. Gaps in our clinical documentation impacts our inpatient revenue and our ability to resource and reinvest in improving the services we provide to our patients.

Where clinical documentation is absent or diagnostic terms are not linked to treatment and findings, you may receive a documentation query which we ask is actioned within two days. Where a response is not received within this timeframe the HIS or CDI staff will follow up with your rooms and if required the Hospital executive team.

Accurate and timely DRG allocation is vital and our Clinical Coding Team is available during business hours, Monday to Friday, to support you with any clinical documentation questions. Documentation should be complete at the time of discharge to enable coders and revenue staff to complete this process. To contact the team, call 03 9411 7696 or email his.general@svha.org.au
